CHANCE PROJECT

The main idea of Chance Project is ‘to create fair living conditions inside and outside of borders’. In the spirit of this idea, the Project has two focuses: Group I aims to provide help in Hungary, especially the Roma and Hungarian communities in the Tiszaroff Microregion; Group II aims to provide help outside of the Hungarian borders, especially for the Hungarian communities in Transcarpathia. In both groups the general purposes include the improvement and support of talents regarding the local and unique circumstances. Based on this idea, the Foundation regularly organizes educational and community events and trainings with the help and under the control of specialists (teachers and mental hygienist). One Coordinator and other volunteers also help the Project.

CHANCE PROJECT – GROUP I

TISZAROFF MICROREGION TALENT PROJECT

In the Chance Project – Group I eight talented, mostly Roma students, who live in extreme poverty from Tiszaroff, Tiszagyenda and Tiszabő, receive support from the Foundation. By providing this support, the Foundation tries to create an environment which can help these students to improve their skills and to find a way to their happiness.

These students can access to the Foundation’s trainings which provide good opportunities as a support system in order to increase their skills and abilities. These events are also good for the Foundation’s specialists to monitor the students’ progress and to provide various assistances for their questions. Inviting role models from various fields of expertise and backgrounds also helps to create a complex framework for the students in finding their own career paths. The Project also aims to support the students’ mental health – in addition to helping their studies and supporting their career choices –. By helping and improving the students’ study methods, the Project’s contributes also to the students’ success in school. The various provided supports also help the students’ families in improving their living conditions.

It is also important that the students need to articulate their own aims and goals which can be achieved by their determined and hard work. It is also essential that the students’ self-esteem can be restored and any failure should not break them down, but to learn to win over any obstacles and to see the good side of it and the lesson in any failure.

The Project also aims to improve the emotional intelligence and consider it as a high priority. The methods of psychology and arts are used to improve the students’ social skills, like works from literature and arts, psychodrama and game therapy. Improving the social skills and study methods are also used to forge a good community, in which the regular and not regular events can be helpful.

CHANCE PROJECT – GROUP II

TRANSCARPATHIA GROUP

The Chance Project – Group II focuses on supporting talented Transcarpathian students who live in deep poverty. The Alliance of Hungarian Teachers in Transcarpathia helps the Foundation to find the most eligible students; without their contribution this Project could not have been started.

The most Transcarpathian students have to help at home and to study well in school at the same time; helping at home is an important factor in maintaining the family budget, so the students’ help is essential. The summer for them is about working and not resting, this is why having a holiday is often unimaginable for them. Despite of this double expectation, many students show their outstanding talents in school and at study contests which was a crucial aspect in organizing this part of the Chance Project. In the framework of traditions, the Project also aims to help and strengthen the Hungarian identity of these students by organizing cultural events, because these students will be the next generation of the Hungarian intellectuals in Transcarpathia.

In addition to the traditions, the education and trainings of the students are also important. Studying financial awareness is a field which is independent from borders. The application and practical usefulness of this knowledge is unquestionable as well.

These aims come from our responsibility for those who live outside of the Hungarian borders and we are committed to provide help on intellectual and spiritual level as well. The life of the Hungarians in Transcarpathia is in a constant change, so today it is more important to accomplish the traditional and educational goals of Chance Project.

Regarding the students’ various situations and backgrounds, their trainings take place during their summer camp.
