Summer Camp

Education

August 1-10, 2018, Balatonföldvár

Every program of the Summer Camp was excellent and gave me fantastic memories. The sport-activities, the mental hygienie trainings, the BankVelem’s training did not let me to get bored. József Pintér’s lecture on “The Treaty of Trianon and Its Consequences” has left a unique mark inside me, for which I, as a Hungarian from Transcarpathia, am especially grateful and I would like to say thanks for the opportunity provided by the All Together for the Future Foundation.

“This is my third time to participate in this Summer Camp. Like in the previous years, I gained a great deal of new experiences. The programs represented high standards and were diverse. We also participated in various lectures. These summer camps from the previous years became my kindest memories. I am really grateful for this opportunity and I can’t say enough “thank you” for this.”

I think the best part of this Summer Camp was the interactive training of BankVelem. I felt fantastic and I could learn new things, like how one can make a distinction between a real and a fake banknote in various ways; er participated in practical economy games which were especially useful for my university studies. The most interesting part of the day was when I met with a 4 million worth briquette.

The students from Project Chance Group II could participate in a Summer Camp in Balatonföldvár, between August 1 and 10, 2018. The Summer Camp provided the students a wide range of activities, sports, resting opportunities and educational trainings in accordance with the Project’s goals.
Most of the students are studying in higher education or got accepted to higher education this summer, and they could learn financial knowledge. Everybody received the textbook of Pénziránytű Alapítvány, called Iránytű a pénzügyekhez; furthermore, everyone received a laptop bag and boxed pens. Thanks for all the gifts and for the professional support.

Lecture on the “The Treaty of Trianon and Its Consequences”

The coming centennial year of the Treaty of Trianon made this lecture unique during the Summer Camp. The theme is very actual for those Hungarians who live outside of the Hungarian borders and face with the reality of this question on a daily basis. The Hungarian minorities may feel the weight of this question on a very regular basis. In the lecture – including fifty PPT-slides – first we showed how this Treaty was understood from the Hungarian historical perspectives. Then we discussed the direct motives and immediate antecedents of the Treaty.

Based on my experiences and the students’ feedback, I can firmly state that the Transcarpathian students understood the main points of the lecture which contributed to strengthen and deepen their Hungarian identity in order to help to raise their awareness and responsibility as individuals and as members of bigger communities, in the context of the Hungarians’ strategic goals.

Mental Hygiene Lecture and Training

As one of the helping members in the Balatonföldvár Summer Camp 2018, I chose Albert Einstein’s words as a motto for my work in the camp, “It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded out humanity”. My goal was to share with all the participants of this Summer Camp, with theses young adults a mental hygiene knowledge which is extremely useful and might fill some gaps in their life. Unfortunately, the education system in Hungary and over the borders focuses mainly on improving the IQ. The new generation is thirsty for sensational learning methods and, at the same time, expects their EQ to be improved beside the vast knowledge they acquire. This is the reason why I decided to give a lecture on “Becoming Adult and Pursuit of Happiness” and another one on “How to improve our cooperative skills and abilities”. After the lectures the participants could discuss its key ideas in small groups and they could react on them based on their previous experiences to processing all information. The audience was open to the lecture, so I felt encouraged to emphasize the difficulties and joys of becoming adult, and how important can a functioning relationship, taking responsibility for ourselves and for others, furthermore the cooperation among individuals and communities – from the angle of mental health be. My plan was to tackle the processes of the emotional and existential detachment from the parents, questions on vocation and higher education, dating and the pursuit of happiness. As a specialist, I felt the lectures were useful and I hope these young adults can learn this preventive knowledge.

During the lectures and group discussions, it was good to experience the students’ open-mindedness and thirst for knowledge. It was one of the very positive moments of the cooperative trainings when the students were able to find compromises, to negotiate and to cooperate with each other in a task-oriented way. At the end of trainings, the students made a joint work of art. In the discussions personal stories came up as well. These discussions also helped to improve their self-discipline and self-control, as well their abilities, like listening and empathy, and how to handle any criticism in the process of cooperation and negotiation with each other. Also at the end of the discussion groups, a creative task challenged the students to set a cooperative system up without any instruction.

It can be concluded that these young adults presented a very high level cooperation and creative problem-solving attitude. I can tell you honestly that it was my pleasure to participate in this Summer Camp.
