Chance – Group 1
Chance Project – Tiszaroff Microregion Talent Project
Support period: October 1, 2016 – September 30, 2017

The second year of Chance Project ended in September, 2017. The students were really interested and looked for this year after the first one. In the second year, again eight students participated in the Project from the settlements of Tiszabő, Tiszagyenda and Tiszaroff. Like in the previous year, the education was led by two hired teachers based on their contracts of services and the complex logistical and operative tasks were conducted by volunteers. During this period the students received the following supports: monthly scholarship 50 000,- HuF for every student, a one time firewood support worth 150 000,- HuF for each of them, and quarterly food package worth 25 000,- HuF also for each of them.
After the first year, it became crystal clear to every student that devoted learning is essential to become successful. The discussed aspects of choosing a career path brought up some good career options which could be reasonable choices for the students.
In the new year, interpreting some new concepts led to lively and even humorous discussions. For example, the concept of scarcity made a clear distinction between the priorities of boys and girls: while the girls insisted on their cosmetics, the boys could not imagine their life without their computers. Using different methods (debate, joint discussion, team work, individual work) helped to understand deeply the themes and topics of trainings.
It is important whether one could realize the importance of learning or not. This is why it is necessary for the students to learn these principles and try to live according to these in the future in order to make it clear: they can become a big help for their family only by studying, learning professions, getting a job and salary.
We also did tests from the Site of National Career Orientation on more training days. The students were pleased to do these tests. By solving psychological tests, the students admitted that they could discover valuable aspects of their identity and with the help of this information they can realize their skills and abilities to find the best suited career paths.
It is also important to mention that by the end of the year, the students formed a very definite idea and purpose for their future, and the tests and different other tasks showed what they need to do to achieve their goals. The students understood how important the endurance, self-confidence and self-assertion are and how these are connected to studying, literacy, IQ and EQ.
It can be concluded by stating that those students who earned good results in school could continue their studies in secondary school.
