Chance Project – Group II
Transcarpathia Talent Project
Support period: October 1, 2016 – September 30, 2017
“Because of my competition results in the 2015/2016 academic year, I got the privilege to spend a week in Zamárdi. This week was a wonderful experience for me. After this week and the summer, the school started and I got a notification about winning a scholarship sponsored by the Foundation. Thanks to the Foundation, I receive a monthly scholarship since October, 2016. I spent this money for taking private lessons in order to achieve good scores at my application exams. I am so grateful for participating in this scholarship which is almost a friendship.”

In the first year of Project, total 160 students and several teachers from Transcarpathia participated in two one-week long camps in Zamárdi at Balaton. This was the time when the most talented students from deep poverty got elected for the Transcarpathia Talent Project. Forty students from twenty-four settlements over Transcarpathia were found eligible for the twelve-month long scholarship. The Foundation’s coworkers travelled to Transcarpathia during the fall break to conclude the scholarship contracts. This Project seems to be outstanding from the aspects of these students; generally speaking, the situation of Transcarpathia is far from the ideal, this is why this support could have a great impact on the lives of 155 people (the students and their families). In this period the students received 17 000,- HuF worth scholarship in every month.
In 2017, seventeen students successfully finished their secondary school studies and earned their maturity exams. They also successfully applied for higher education, one person continued his studies at specialization training, and twenty-two students study still in high school.

The Alliance of Hungarian Teachers in Transcarpathia in the framework of GENIUS Project organizes various talent trainings and contests for the talented Hungarian students. The most talented students of the 2015/2016 academic year could participate in two one-week long summer camps in Zamárdi organized by the Foundation.
Furthermore, the Foundation provides monthly scholarship for those students in the 2016/2017 academic year who had an outstanding performance in the previous years in high school. This scholarship means a lot for the students and their families to achieve their goals.
Dear Foundation!
In the name of the scholarship-holders I would like to express our gratitude for this support which means a lot to us. This Project means more than just a financial support; it deepens our knowledge. It was a great joy for everyone when the notification arrived that they were found eligible for the Foundation’s scholarship. In my opinion, the great many work, the countless days with studying do not go in vain.
Most of these students finish their high school studies in this or next year, and take their maturity exams. I asked them how they use this scholarship. All of them answered that they spend this money in relation with their studies or improving their skills. They try to spend this money the best and most efficient way.
The high school seniors would like to spend the scholarship to pay their advanced level exams, language courses or languages exams. Some of them want to save this money for dormitory and living costs or for other items which will be necessary for the university.
In more cases, the students spend the scholarship for textbooks in order to prepare well for their maturity exams. There are also students who save this money to buy a laptop or tablet which are also important for their further studies.
The interests of these students are manifold. Many of them showed their talents in various study competitions, but there are also students who are outstanding at folk dancing or folk singing. So there are students who bought shoes, balls, dancing boots and other additional clothing items or new instruments from the scholarship.
The students are diverse and have different goals, but all of them are talented and this scholarship helps a lot to each of them. They are really grateful for the scholarship and for the fact that there are foundations in the motherland which care about those Hungarians who live outside of Hungary.
The students are committed to study and promise to keep pursuing their goals.
In the name of all forty Transcarpathian students, I express our deepest gratitude for this help and trust!
